A Personal Mission,
Now a Growing Platform
COMED Therapeutics was founded in 2019, after Dr. Cenk Öztürk's profound personal experience when his mother was diagnosed with late-stage cancer. Following this life-altering event, Cenk assembled a team of scientists to explore new approaches to drug delivery—an exploration that would ultimately lead to the COMED Hooks platform.
The mission has evolved since then. The motivation hasn't: reaching disease where conventional medicine cannot.
Headquartered at the Malta Life Sciences Park, COMED has advanced three therapeutic candidates through discovery and preclinical research—a lead program in pancreatic cancer, the deadliest of all major cancers, alongside programs in spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and malaria.
Our proprietary platform and portfolio of engineered antibodies work together to reach disease drivers long considered undruggable—progress that positions COMED to pursue accelerated development pathways such as Breakthrough Therapy and Orphan Drug designation.

COMED's team brings together expertise across pharmacokinetics, molecular biology, genetics and medicine—supported by a scientific advisory board spanning academic and industry leadership across Europe and the US.
Recognized Through Competitive Funding
COMED's progress is supported by competitive funding and national recognition—including two separate research grants from Xjenza Malta, one for malaria and one for cancer—as well as innovation financing from Malta Enterprise, including grants and a soft loan that supported our relocation to the Malta Life Sciences Park in 2023.
